quick post

dinner last night. you must believe how delicious this actually was.

it was:
1 carton egg beaters
chopped canadian bacon (idk how much, man...alot though)
1 pckg frozen veggie mix thawed and patted as dry as possible
like a tablespoon or so of buttermilk
sundried tomato flecks
garlic powder
salt
pepper
paprika
a little thyme
chopped green onions
chives

as a recipe, it really doesn't sound like much, but there was something about it that was completely delicious and oddly decadent. i thought i was blowing it by not having cheese on hand, but it needed it not.
mixing salsa directly into the egg mixture is almost ALWAYS a delicious way to add alot of surprising and vibrant flavor. but when i went to open the salsa, it exploded...botchilism!

sprayed a heavy black skillet with cooking spray (sort of alot because those things suck sometimes) and poured the entire mixture in and aranged it evenly and somewhat prettily. the sundried tomato flecks look kinda boogery. but oh well.
cook stovetop for maybe just five or ten minutes, letting it set, and shifting it ever so slightly, like you would with scrambled eggs. then place in a 350 degree oven for...umm...i don't remember how long. sorry! awhile. probably a little under 20 minutes or until the middle isn't jiggly.

some feta or ricotta would have been so awesome in it...and i think any frozen veggie would work, as long as you remove all of the excess water that you can.

i seriously need to work on my recipe-writing skills /=

dinner party tonight! will update you all tomorrow or late this evening if i experience the devestation of having nothing to do. <3 apparently these boys have NO FOOD in their entire flat.

I feel sort of

lame for blogging already again, but I feel like there are alot of pretty little aspects to be taken in from today, even if all that I've "made" yet persay is a huge salad.
My aunt recently came to visit bringing with her 70s treasures.
I spent the morning pouring over these japanese-influenced fashion magazines all from 1971. The pages are just beautiful. They're oversized with a matte finish, and the photoshoots are all that I could ask for and more in the realm of style. I don't think I've ever found shoots this good all in the same place before.

dang, blogging URLs are crazy!
and this is a sweet little wrap thing that my grandmother had made for her when she said she was "a size six...HAH!" and it could pretty much fit anyone within 50 lbs of my sizerange so that's nice. I really love it.

Guido dug the mags too, but I had to move him because he drools and loves laying on papery things...?

Alas, this would not be complete without food of somekind. I went to Cardenas and bought all these nootrishus veggies for under five bucks total. Salad below. Nothing exciting. I'm basically catering a dinner party tomorrow night though, so we'll see!

the almost-end of summer

It's early August, and I'm so ready for school to start again. This summer was great, but I start to get kinda loopy without a solid schedule for too much of a time.

Last night was the monthly cycledelics bike ride. it was really fun. even though i was struggling to keep up on the "slow-paced leisure ride".
Tonight should be a typical Riverside night. My wonderful friends' bands are playing a free show at one of the prettiest little spots in this sometimes seemingly hopeless off-shoot of LA town.
In the meantime, I think I'll go running and then take the rather ugly and desolate drive to Cardenas for dirt cheap produce. (10 lbs of oranges and 8 lbs of green cabbage for a dollar? i kid you not.)
I feel like hiking up mt rubidoux alone. Pictures if i do.

Here are somethings that I've cooked lately to get things started...
apparently I still need to figure out how to work this thing. Shown: Cupcakes from brother's july 4th birthday kegger!; Baklava stuffed with pistaccios, walnuts, and a brown sugar-honey-cinnamon-lemon zest goo; Sweet mustard-rubbed pork tenderloin with leftover potato salad and cheesey potato pancakes; ceviche de camaron con galletas (or is it saladas?)
Have a great day, everyone! Take your vitamins!
